Chris Brooks chosen as Erath County’s latest ‘hometown hero.’

A well-known Erath County firefighter was named September’s “hometown hero” by Leslie Walker Farmers Agency.

In a letter nominating Chris for the award, Erath County emergency management coordinator Cyndi Smith called Chris a “team player” who is dedicated to serving as the county’s fire coordinator.

Chris was presented with the award on Thursday by Farmers representatives Carlene Sutton and Kelly Edwards.

He received a certificate of appreciation, gift basket, local gift cards and cookies for his fellow firefighters.

Chris began serving as a volunteer firefighter in 1999 and became the county’s fire coordinator in 2013.
