“Every champion was once a contender that refused to give up.” – Rocky Balboa

Members of the Stephenville Boxing Club will compete in the Fort Worth Regional Golden Gloves tournament March 8-12, and they are hoping to bring back a win.

“If one of our fighters wins, I believe they’ll be the first person from Stephenville to do so,” Coach Elias Medina told Beneath the Surface News. “In the past, Golden Gloves was divided by regions with Dallas and Fort Worth being separate, but this year the regions have combined, so we hope to underscore Stephenville as the City of Champions and bring back a win!”

Those competing from Stephenville include:

Marcus the “Hawk” Gonzales (Peewee Division, 65 lb. weight class)

Mark “Kid Dynamite” Dolloff (Junior Division, 90 lb. weight class)

Matthew “Puma” Needham (Youth Division, 100 lb. weight class)

Jonathan “Johnny Boy” Andrade (Men’s Novice Division, 176 lb. weight class).

Good luck!
