With just days left to file for place on May ballot, the race for school board heats up.
The deadline to file for a spot on the May 6 ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17.
And although candidates have been slow to trickle in, several key races for Stephenville ISD board of trustees and Stephenville City Council are beginning to take shape.
Here’s a look at what’s happened so far.
RACE FOR SISD
Trustee Donny Hill has filed for another three-year term on Place 7, while Phyllis Stewart (Place 6) has reportedly opted to not seek re-election.
According to SISD officials, Rita Cook and Ben McCleery have both filed to run for Place 6.
On paperwork filed with the district, Cook lists her occupation as “retired” and McCleery lists his as “pastor and teacher.”
In the race for city council, Justin Slawson and Brandon Greenhaw are running for Place 7, currently held by Gerald Cook, and Maddie Smith has filed to run for Place 5, currently held by Ricky Thurman.
Cook and Thurman will not run for re-election because of term limits.
Current council members Lonn Reisman (Place 3) and LeAnn Durfey (Place 1) are also up for re-election and have already filed for another two-year term.
