This nurse practitioner has a passion for women’s health.

Kayla Routh

Kayla Routh is a nurse practitioner at the Family Practice Clinic of Mills County in Goldthwaite.

The clinic is part of the Hamilton Healthcare System, which Routh has been affiliated with since 2016.

“I worked as an ICU nurse, but after I got pregnant with twins, I moved home to Goldthwaite to be closer to family,” she told Beneath the Surface News. “I loved the energy in a large hospital ICU, but it led to burnout.

“I love providing care for members of my home community.”

Routh treats patients of all ages – from childhood checkups to seniors dealing with chronic pain, illness and disease, but her passion is women’s health, particularly women in the perimenopausal stage of life.

“For the longest time women were told that they had to suffer through hot flashes, depression and mood swings, but that’s not true,” she said.

Routh says women usually begin experiencing menopause symptoms in their mid 40s.

“The average age of menopause is 51, and after they haven’t had a cycle for one year, they’re considered post-menopausal,” she said.

Routh says as women age, their risk for developing heart disease and other illnesses increase so helping them with disease prevention is an important part of the process.

Glory to God I found new passion and purpose sharing burnout recovery and holistic approach to wellness and health,” she said.
