Signups for Tarleton State University’s annual summer swim lessons are underway, and if enrolling your child is on the to-do list, don’t wait.
Ronnie Zoch, director of Tarleton’s summer swim program, said spots fill up quickly.
This year’s schedule will include three two-week sessions that will meet eight times for 45 minutes at Tarleton’s heated indoor swimming pool inside Wisdom Gym.
Each session is $65 and kids will receive a T-shirt.
“What I want these kids to learn are the basic skills; it’s important that all kids learn how to swim,” Zoch told Beneath the Surface News.
Session 1 will be held June 1-10. The first week will be Tuesday-Friday and the second week Monday-Thursday.
Session 2 will be held June 14-24 and Session 3 will be held June 28–July 8; both sessions will take place Monday-Thursday.
Lessons will be offered on five skill levels:
Level 1 (Introduction to Water Skills): Preschool, 4 years old
Level 2 (Fundamental Aquatic Skills): Beginner, not afraid of water or putting face into water.
Level 3 (Stroke Development): Advanced beginner, able to swim, crawl stroke full length of pool without stopping, underwater swim, tread water.
Level 4 (Stroke Improvement): Intermediate, able to swim back stroke, breast stroke, crawl stroke, tread water, underwater swim and endurance swim.
Level 5 (Stroke Refinement): Swimmer should be able to swim back stroke, breast stroke, crawl stroke, underwater swim, tread water and endurance swim.
