Stephenville Running Club races through Fort Worth and is now headed to NYC.

A few members of the Stephenville Running Club who competed in last weekend's Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth.

A little less than a year ago Julie Brinkley and Neely Carter created a Facebook group to unite local runners.

Calling it the Stephenville Running Club, 30 people joined the online movement in its first week, and since then, the club has grown significantly.

“We are now 309 members strong,” Julie told Beneath the Surface News. “Our hope was to create an online support page for runners; a place to learn, share and connect with others.

“We like to say all ‘paces, races and faces’ are welcome.”

The club meets at 7:30 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month at Cold Smoke.

Last weekend 54 members of the group participated in the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth, competing in the 5k, 10k, half marathon (13.1 miles), full marathon (26.2 miles), challenge (running both days), relay and virtual.

Five members of the group ran the full marathon and two - Neely Carter and Danielle Carey – qualified for the Boston Marathon.

“You can ask any of our club members and they would all agree that we are growing into a family,” Julie said. “There is so much love and support.”

WHATS NEXT?

Six members of the club are heading to New York City to run a half marathon on March 20.

“It’s the largest race in the city and the only race that closes Time Square,” Julie said.

Julie and her husband Dana are heading to the Big Apple along with Cindy West, Kathleen Huckabee, Neely Carter and Terri Greenway.

The group will also host the 4th annual Brinkley Family/SRC Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.

Anyone interested in running is invited to join the Facebook group where they will find a full list of upcoming events.
