August in Stephenville means one thing: back-to-school season.
Whether you’re packing lunches, getting kids out the door, heading back into the classroom, juggling work and school activities or simply finding that your schedule gets busier this time of year, mornings can suddenly feel a lot more rushed.
And your skincare routine shouldn’t make them harder.
As a chemist and busy mom, one of the biggest skincare myths I see online is that better skin requires more products.
In reality, a few strategically chosen products can help you simplify your routine, spend less money and still take great care of your skin.

If your August mornings are already feeling hectic, here are three easy skincare swaps to try.
1. Combine your hydration steps
Take a look at all those little bottles sitting on your bathroom counter. Do you really need all of them?
For example, instead of using a separate hyaluronic acid serum and niacinamide serum, I like finding a well-formulated product that contains both ingredients (50% off right now too).
Hyaluronic acid helps support skin hydration, while niacinamide can help support the skin barrier and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone.
Combining them into one step means fewer products to apply, fewer products to purchase, and a little less time spent getting ready.
These ingredients also work better when formulated together, so it saves not only time, but also gives better results.
2. Keep hypochlorous acid spray handy
Our Texas heat doesn’t disappear just because school starts.
August can still mean triple-digit afternoons, sweaty school pickup lines, outdoor practices, workouts, football games and plenty of time outside.
That’s why hypochlorous acid spray has become one of my favorite simple skincare products.
I use it after exercising, being outside, or anytime my skin gets particularly sweaty and needs a refresh. It can also be useful for certain beauty tools between regular deeper cleanings.
It’s a simple, versatile product that earns its spot in my routine.
3. Trade a multi-step morning for tinted SPF
This is probably my favorite busy-morning skincare swap.
Instead of applying moisturizer, sunscreen, primer and full-coverage foundation separately, I often reach for a hydrating tinted mineral sunscreen.
One good formula can provide sun protection, hydration, and a little complexion coverage at the same time.
You don’t need an overly expensive product either, just one with good quality mineral sunscreen.
More importantly, sunscreen is one of the most worthwhile steps you can take to help protect your skin from UV damage and premature signs of aging.
After dealing with skin cancer at a young age, daily sunscreen is non-negotiable for me.
Using a tinted formula simply makes that important habit easier to fit into real life, and I can skip foundation.
And yes, you still need sunscreen in August - even if most of your day involves school drop-off, driving to work, running errands or sitting at Friday night football games.
We spend so much time in August buying school supplies, organizing closets, creating new schedules and getting our families ready for another school year.
Why not give your skincare routine a little reset, too?
You don’t need an expensive 10-step routine to take good care of your skin.
Start by looking for products that can do more than one job. Combining niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, keeping a versatile hypochlorous acid spray handy and swapping several products for a hydrating tinted SPF are three easy places to start.
You’ll save time and money and make those busy mornings a little easier.
