OPINION: Why I support Dr. Rita Cook for Stephenville ISD board of trustees.

I fully support Dr. Rita Cook for Place 2 in the upcoming Stephenville Independent School Board race on May 4.

John and I have known Rita since the 1970s while she was attending Tarleton. I can confidently say that she possesses the experience and educational acumen to be elected as a school board trustee.

Rita graduated from Stephenville High School.  She received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Tarleton State University and her doctorate in Educational Administration from Kansas State University.

She was a leader in the classroom as a teacher and was also a successful superintendent.

Rita understands the financial responsibilities and possible struggles of a school district. She understands the frustrations for the teachers to teach curriculum that uses common sense while scoring well on state mandated tests.

She knows that students should be happy while they are learning and teachers should be happy while teaching. She knows that students and teachers both should be safe at school and not give up their lives while on campus.

Stephenville is Rita’s hometown. She is proud of Stephenville and gives her time selflessly to many organizations and philanthropic causes.

Rita brings fresh and innovative ideas to the organizations she supports. Her belief in giving back and pouring herself into what she believes in is evident in her civic work today.

I am confident in her ability to fulfill her promises to keep our schools safe, focus on academic and common sense and being transparent while partnering with the parents, students and community.

Thank you,

Connie Wooley
