New cases of COVID may be leveling off, but doctor warns it’s no time to ‘relax.’

There was a total of eight new cases of COVID-19 in Erath County over the weekend and into Monday, and that’s spurring hope that things might be “leveling off.”

Dr. Kelly Doggett, Stephenville’s health authority, said he is continuing to monitor trends and is hopeful the spread of the virus is slowing.

I’m analyzing the trends over the last couple of weeks; total numbers and percent positivity,” Dr. Doggett said. “It appears the mask order and other mitigating effects may be starting to have the desired effect. Things may be leveling off, but we are still steadily cranking out new cases every day.

“We definitely can’t relax at this point.”
