Meals On Wheels launches new program aimed at helping the elderly fight loneliness.

BTS NEWS SPECIAL REPORT

Meals On Wheels is finding new ways to support the growing needs of its senior community.

The Friendly Visitors Program is designed to enhance the quality of life for seniors in Erath County by providing social interaction and emotional support.

Meals On Wheels staff will match volunteers to a homebound or isolated senior with similar interests. The senior (age 60 or older) is not required to be on meal services to participate in the Friendly Visitors Program.

The program can help reduce the negative health effects associated with isolation and loneliness and improve the overall wellbeing of seniors in the community.

Visits by volunteers are to be social in nature and will not involve housework or errands.

Volunteers must be 18 years old, pass a background check and be willing to make a one-year commitment.
