Stephenville resident and former 7th grade history teacher Nancy Crouch has been commissioned as a Yellow Rose of Texas by Gov. Greg Abbott.

The award is an honorary commission that recognizes outstanding Texas women for their significant contributions to their community and preservation of Texas History.

Nancy was nominated by her former student, State Representative Shelby Slawson.

Nancy began her teaching career in 1960.

Following time off to start a family, she began teaching at Stephenville ISD in 1974. During this time, she received numerous awards in teaching excellence.

Over the years her students raised money for the Statue of Liberty, Battleship Texas, the restoration of the Texas Capitol and the Stephenville Historical House Museum.

Nancy was the first teacher to lead the annual student trip to Washington, D.C. in 1981 (the annual trip continues to this day), and the first to lead a student trip to Europe in 1982.

Nancy has a bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University and a master’s degree from Tarleton State University.

She has been a board member of the Stephenville Historical House Museum, a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council.
