Full house: Erath County Humane Society delivering 15 dogs to foster families in Illinois this week.

Say hi to Nestle.

With 56 dogs and 42 cats to care for, things are a little hectic at the Erath County Humane Society.

That’s why a road trip to deliver 15 dogs to a rescue group in Illinois is happening this week.

“We will be leaving on Wednesday for Springfield, Missouri with the dogs,” ECHS executive director Serena Wright told Beneath the Surface News. “We will meet another transport there that will take them the rest of the way to Illinois, to a rescue group called Fetching Tails.

“They already have fosters set up until the dogs get adopted.”

Serena said the move is to make more room locally and get the dogs to a place where they might have a better chance of being adopted.

“They have a shortage of dogs there and have very strict spay/neuter laws up north,” she said.

Meanwhile, if you are looking to end 2020 with a new family member, this week’s featured pets are just adorable.

Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash is a two-year-old male Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix that really needs a good home.

“He is a lovely boy with a gentle soul,” Serena said. “He dislikes being kept in a kennel and tries to escape when the gate is open so he may enjoy a home with lots of land. He loves people and will want to be right with you wherever you go.”

Johnny Cash is pretty good on a leash, loves to play and is microchipped.

Nestle is a five-month-old female kitten that loves attention.

“She loves getting scratches and will meow for attention,” Serena said. “She is a little wobbly and off-balanced sometimes and doesn’t pay much attention to other cats or dogs.”

Nestle is also microchipped.
