Longtime Erath County fire coordinator Chris Brooks is stepping into a new role.

Judge Brandon Huckabee announced on Tuesday that Brooks has become Erath County’s new emergency management coordinator.

“I believe Chris is a key piece as we build a more collaborative and effective department and I’m excited to work with him and all the first responders in Erath County,” Huckabee told Beneath the Surface News. Brooks moved to Stephenville in 1993, graduating from Stephenville High School in 1994.

He worked in the auto parts industry for 18 years before becoming fire coordinator in 2013.

As emergency management coordinator, Brooks will oversee resources and recovery efforts in the event of a natural disaster.

“Preparedness is probably the biggest part; pre-planning and developing relationships with folks that provide those resources,” Brooks said. “I’m looking forward to working with other officials focused on the future of Erath County.”

Brooks will continue in his role as the county’s fire coordinator.
