Enjoy a calming experience at Verde Canna Boutique, Stephenville’s newest retailer.

Jim Richardson, owner of Verde Canna Boutique, located in Stephenville's Bosque River Center.

I’ll admit that I have never walked into a boutique that specializes in the sale of CBD products, but on Thursday, four days after Verde Canna Boutique opened in the Bosque River Center in Stephenville, I found myself standing in a place that felt more like a spa than store.

Stay with me.

The open-air boutique, which has been completely transformed from its prior use as a women’s clothing store, boasts a Zen-like feel and calming scent I immediately liked.

Verde’s owner Jim Richardson was equally likable with an easy-going manner and impressive knowledge about the products he sells.

Jim told me that he and his wife Meagan lived in Farmers Branch where he worked as a police officer for 25 years, the past 16 as a narcotics detective.

After his recent retirement, the couple moved to Hico where they built a new home and opened Verde in Stephenville.

Jim said the decision to open this type of boutique was personal.

“My wife suffers from crippling anxiety and was given all kinds of prescription medications to control it,” Jim told Beneath the Surface News. “One of my buddies owns a CBD shop and he suggested that she try some. She started out with gummies – two in the morning and two in the evening – and she has been anxiety-free ever since.

“She said it felt like a giant weight was lifted off her chest. When I saw what CBD did for her, I decided that’s what I wanted to do.”

A WIDE RANGE OF PRODUCTS

What is particularly striking about Verde is the wide range of products it sells from 30 different vendors.

There is a section for chocolate lovers (think cookies, bon bons and bars), CBD-infused sparkling water, skin care products, soaps, bath bombs, intimacy products and an assortment of candles and essential oils.

There are gummies, candies, capsules, creams, tinctures and liquid shots.

There is even a special line of products for dogs, cats and horses that help with hip, joint and skin health.

It’s truly fascinating.

Jim took the time to explain the products and their benefits. There is a special wall that explains terpenes and allows customers to smell each scent. (Terpenes are the natural compounds found in the flower or bud of a cannabis plant and are used in CBD oil.)

Verde sells CBD products containing no THC and others that have up to 0.3% THC as allowed by Texas law.

You must be 18 or 21 years old to purchase certain products.

I left Verde with a lavender candle and a few bath bombs.

(I took a bath with one last night and it was amazing. The water felt like silk and smelled like heaven.)

Verde is a really cool place you should stop by and check out. Leave any preconceived notions you have about CBD at the door.

The boutique has an inviting sitting area where clients can learn more about Verde’s products and Jim is more than willing to share his knowledge.

“We wanted to bring something new to Stephenville that people have never experienced before,” he said.

And Verde is certainly that.
