Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge: Get your team together for next weekend’s Dodgeball tournament.
Updated: May 3, 2021
The five rules of Dodgeball according to the movie with the same name are simple: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge.
Turns out I wasn’t really great at ducking, dipping, diving or dodging, but that didn’t stop me from loving the game.
I was a child of the 80s, after all, and recess often meant a rousing game of Dodgeball on the playground.
My heart would pound as I stood in the center of the circle trying my hardest from getting pinged with the ball.
And when I did, I’d become furious, fantasizing about how when it was my turn, I would fling that ball hard enough to ricochet off my opponent’s head and knock ‘em out of play.
Head shots are frowned upon, by the way, but good sportsmanship has never been one of my strong points.
Still, I freaking love the thrill of a good Dodgeball game, which is why I’m super bummed that I will miss next weekend’s Dodgeball tournament benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erath County.
The fun will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Sky High, located at 2870 FM 914 in Stephenville.
The cost to enter a six-player team is $300.
BBBS executive director Sarah McNeal says there is still plenty of time to enter and knock the reigning champs – the Erath Entrepreneurs – off their throne.
I spoke with team captain Devan Hanson who said the Erath Entrepreneurs will be back in action next Saturday and are determined to hold on to the winning title.
If you think you have what it takes to Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge, get a team together and enter the tournament by emailing smcneal@bbbstx.org or mtalbert@bbbstx.org.
