Deadline looms for petition drive aimed at legalizing sale of alcohol in Erath County in November.

The deadline to submit the 4,400 signatures on a petition legalizing the sale of liquor and mixed drinks in Erath County is only six weeks away.
Several local business leaders are working to get the measure on the ballot in November.
John Hatch, a consultant with Texas Petition Strategies of Austin, has been hired to lead the petition drive and campaign.
If the measure passes, it would end the need for private club permits and could generate as much as $10 million a year in additional sales, 100 new jobs and $200,000 in local sales tax revenue.
If enough signatures for the petition are gathered by the June 4 deadline, Erath County commissioners will be required to order the election for Nov. 2.
Only registered voters can sign the petition.
The petitions can be found at Hearsay Wine Bar, Bull Nettle, Chili’s and Greer’s Ranch Café.
