Commissioner Joe Brown resigns before term ends; Sherman Edwards appointed to take the helm.
Sherman Edwards has become Erath County commissioner of precinct 3 earlier than expected following Joe Brown’s resignation on Monday.
Erath County Judge Brandon Huckabee appointed Edwards to fill Brown’s unexpired term for the remainder of the year.
“I want to thank Commissioner Brown for his years of service to the citizens of Erath County,” Huckabee told Beneath the Surface News.
“One of my favorite quotes is by Theodore Roosevelt ‘The Man in the Arena’ and I am thankful Joe was in the arena. I hope he enjoys his family time and I know he will find ways to continue to serve in other roles.
“As we move forward, I am excited to see Sherman step into the arena as we continue to collaborate and work to make Erath County an even better place to call home.”
Edwards won the Republican primary runoff in May and was set to become the next commissioner in January 2025.
Brown said he wishes Edwards the best and is looking forward to retirement.
“For over 15 years, my crew and family have tried to make precinct 3 and Erath County better; we accomplished much.
“Sherman Edwards has been elected. He has plans to better the county and instead of waiting until January, he can get a started now.”
