City takes action against nail salon for failing to comply with disaster declaration

Special Report

The Stephenville Police Department announced in a press release Thursday that it will continue to enforce the emergency declaration with “compassion and education.”

“Officers and city employees are visiting businesses to ensure compliance,” the release states. “Businesses that are ordered to close such as nail salons, tattoo parlors and hair salons are required to comply with state, county and city declarations. Local enforcement occurred (Thursday) when Lux Nail Spa failed to comply with the city’s COVID-19 disaster declaration."

The penalty for violating health orders can include a fine of up to $1,000 or up to 180 days in jail. The city may also revoke a certificate of occupancy held by a business that commits a second violation.
