‘Cheers!’ Gov. Abbott hints at reopening bars as Erath County sees 22 new cases of COVID.

Gov. Greg Abbott has closed Texas bars not once, but twice, since the COVID pandemic began.

But after a tweet on Monday, many are speculating that he will soon relax more restrictions and allow bars to reopen.

“The hospitalizations, number of new positive cases, and positivity rate remain contained. Today was one of the lowest for fatalities in a long time. I will be announcing more openings soon. Cheers!” Abbott said in the tweet.

Meanwhile, Erath County continues to churn out a steady number of new cases with 13 reported on Friday, Oct. 2.

County officials on Tuesday released the latest numbers, which showed 22 new cases on Monday; nine in Stephenville, three in Dublin and 10 in the county.

Last week, Dr. Kelly Doggett stressed the importance of continuing to wear masks, social distancing and washing hands.

“It’s not over yet,” he said.
