Buy a pie, help a pet; The Pizza Place partners with ECHS to spread the word on animal adoptions.

JC Creed shows off a new pizza box that features a pet that's up for adoption.

With an ongoing shortage of staff and space, the Erath County Humane Society routinely functions at capacity.

Just this week, the animal shelter reported 69 dogs and 33 cats that need homes.

Now, The Pizza Place is stepping up to help by putting pets that need to be adopted on its pizza boxes.

“We will be featuring four pets each week on every pizza box,” Jodi Weyers told Beneath the Surface News. “We have always had a special place in our hearts for rescue animals and saw this idea from another pizza shop in the Niagara area.

“We thought it would be an easy way for us to help spread the word about what our local shelter has to offer and hopefully give every pet waiting for their forever home a chance at a new beginning.”

Jodi and her husband Jeff own The Pizza Place, which is located at Beans and Franks in Stephenville.

ECHS executive director Serena Wright said she is grateful for the Weyers' willingness to help.

“Jodi contacted us about putting the flyers on pizza boxes and we loved the idea,” Serena said. “It helps us reach a larger audience and will give the animals a better chance at finding homes.”
