The suspect in the armed robbery of Wrangler’s convenience store in Stephenville on June 27 is waking up behind bars this morning.
Jeffrey Sylvester Harper was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Service on Tuesday night.
“They found him at an apartment in the Metroplex,” Lt. James Gresham with the Stephenville Police Department told Beneath the Surface News. “He is expected to be brought back to Erath County this afternoon.”
Harper will be charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, but could face additional charges.
“We are still investigating and want to know if there are others who were involved,” Gresham said.
Harper is an Erath County resident with an extensive criminal history that spans across multiple states.
A few of his past charges include armed robbery, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm and escape from custody.
Stephenville Police Chief Dan Harris thanked the public for the tips that helped police identify Harper.
“That information, along with great police work from our officers, telecommunicators and detectives, and with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force resulted in identifying, locating and safely taking Mr. Harper into custody," Harris said. "We are honored to serve and protect our beloved community and we will go to great lengths to keep violent offenders off our streets.”
